Lexington Attorney Matthew Bunch

ATTORNEY MATTHEW B. BUNCH

Matthew B. Bunch was born in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1966 and has a keen legal mind. He has represented families and businesses throughout Kentucky and focuses on bankruptcy law and civil litigation.

Matt handles complicated bankruptcies and debt restructuring in Chapters 11 and 13 for both individuals and companies. He has also negotiated with multiple creditors on behalf of his clients to avoid bankruptcy. Matt is the firm’s lead litigator and handles contract disputes, certain personal injury claims and general litigation.

Outside the legal profession, Matt is a family man who loves building experimental airplanes and refereeing college soccer on a national level. He fell in love with flying when he was a kid and took his first discovery flight in college. He enjoys the challenge of building experimental airplanes that fly 200 mph. In 2008, Matt was appointed by the Georgetown City Mayor and the Judge Executive of Georgetown, KY, as a board member on the Georgetown-Scott County Airport Corporation. He serves as its treasurer.

“I believe my experience sets me apart. I was lucky to practice with the best bankruptcy lawyer in Kentucky – my father. I practiced with him for nearly a quarter century and he taught me a great deal. I enjoyed listening to my parents discuss their day over the dinner table. Tom and I were always mesmerized by that. I strive to practice law in his footsteps. I like being able to connect with people and understand their conflicts. I enjoy thinking of ways to find an expeditious solution as people like to have resolution in their lives.”

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Matt has decades of experience representing businesses in complicated Chapter 11 bankruptcies, including the new Sub-Chapter V of Chapter 11 for small businesses with debts of less than $7.5 million. In addition, Matt is skilled at representing creditors who are inadvertently caught up in other people’s bankruptcies. He works tirelessly to achieve the best outcome possible for every client.

Matt and his brother and law partner, Tom II, were raised by two attorneys. He spent his childhood learning about the law at home and watching his father in the courtroom. The law is a family profession, and Matt has deep roots in the Lexington area.
